Xbox One readies shift to 20nm – but can a smaller node help it match the PS4’s performance?

Would it be theoretically possible that a console manufacturer upgrades the hardware so that the newer releases plays the same game as the existing X1, but with resolution and/or fps? Like upgrading your PC to play your existing library with higher specs?
