Now a nintendo console done the right way of course it could win, you know when i saw the Wii U for the first time i knew it wouldn't convince anyone, things were worse than (i) expected but what i mean is, you just know, when nintendo is ready to reing again, if ever, we'll just know, if they never are we'll know, many things could happen tomorrow...

Well, they got the 3DS, whch is dominating against the PSVITA

Foolish nonsense! What are you saying, you filthy heretic?! Handhelds obvioualy don't count towards anything, everyone knows it dammit! Only home consoles are important in this universe. Home consoles are for the cool kids. Handhelds are for nerds!

Now seriously though I love how everyone always seem to ignore the 3DS when talking about Nintendo's situation in the market (Though in this thread it's obviously ok since the question is about home consoles).

Nevertheless even Nintendo is a small fish in the mobile gaming sector by now. After some great years with the Wii+DS combo (over 600 billion Yen software revenue in 2009), they are again at 200 - 250 billion Yen (~2 billion US$) software revenue per year (home consoles + handhelds together).

For comparison: Apple had over 10 billion US$ app gross revenue last year (main contributer: mobile games) and this volume has grown to over 3 billion US$ per quarter, so this year the app gross revenue should reach 13 - 15 billion US$.

Add the revenue of Google Play and the Amazon AppStore to that, then the people spend 8 - 10 times more money for gaming apps than for handheld games.

And it will only become worse the next years.
