The first table adds more confusion than clarity IMO.

Just having a X vs X, Y vs Y and Total vs Total is easy to read at a glance and infer the other ratios.

But what if you want to compare X vs Y ?

I know, but just my feedback - I've looked at this thread a few times and it always takes me a while to figure out what the 1st table is showing.

a) The pie charts make it easy to compare X vs Y.

b) Just showing the basic data is easy to compare at a glance.
 8.7  X1 vs X2 2.8
 7.5  Y1 vs Y2 6.3
 16.1  Z1 vs Z2 9.1

We can see at a glance X1 > Y2, X1 > Y1, X2 < Y2, etc.  The layout you have is nice that it has all the percentages, but it's so much to take in that it's hard to see the gist of it.
