Saying that Nintendo should release a console without its intended controller is frankly quite stupid, and it has been pointed out over and over and over again each time it's brought up by someone who just doesn't think things through. The Gamepad is not an optional controller, it is essential for the OS and most of the software to function as intended. Even software that do not require the Gamepad during regular gameplay has functionality in the game's interface linked to the Gamepad.
In other words, if a customer buys a Wii U without a Gamepad and three games, and finds out that they can't even play their game? Access certain core features of the game? Or even navigate correctly through the interface due to a lack of a Gamepad, how are they going to feel about Nintends? How would that sort of customer relationship disaster help Nintendo?
I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
