I think there's a new tax in Japan which has made money more scares than usual.

The tax went up by like 3%, and it wasn't exactly high to start with. If that is making them buy less games then why are Europe still buying plenty of stuff with our much higher taxes?

Meh, that's one variable. If we're comparing Europe taxes we'd also have to compare everything else like game prices and markets and what each country prioritizes when buying things or when buying games and how much money is available to the standard game player in each country and a lot of other things.
