They are following marketing and hype about insanely powerful hardware even though the games (see the sentence before) mainly are looking only slightly better. To be honest I do not not why people are buying a new console for games, which they can also play on their old console. It has to do something with slightly improved graphics. Maybe they think the old console is so old, it only can do bad graphics right now, so i better buy a new one.

Well, I for one knew that I was going to upgrade eventually when things like Halo 5, Red Dead 3 and the next Batman came were gonna come out so I just decided to do it earlier while I knew I could financially afford to purchase it. I think that is how most people are looking at it when considering an upgrade. And of course you have those materialistic people who see new shiny technology and they simply must own it, like those nutjobs who buy the new iPhone every year :P
