My opinion from announcement day was that JJ Abrams was the wrong director for the job. He's great for popcorn flicks, but so are Michael Bay and Zach Snyder, among a slew of other B-list directors given an A-list budget. Basically, since Lost ended Abrams hasn't shown me that he has any ambition. I really didn't see anything in the new Treks worth rebooting the franchise over, and I don't see anything here worth decanonizing the EU. Perhaps more to the point, I'm a little irked that both of Science Fiction's big franchises are now getting directed by the same white guy. Abrams will really have his work cut out to convince me this was a good idea. |
While I agree JJ isn't the best pic for these movies, what does his race have to do with anything?
