See, that's the thing, you're confusing "doing something different" with "having personality"
Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Star Fox, Kirby, and many others. All of these Nintendo icons have personality. Just because those personalities have been around for 15 - 20 years doesn't detract from the presence of their personality. Also, hearing comments about how Nintendo is milking their franchises is retarded. The only reason they've milked it longer than anyone else is because they're the only company that has been able to SURVIVE that long. If any other company had the ability to come out with consistently good and fun games, they would.
Take this for an example; You have a friend, and they have a very specific personality that you enjoy. Do you stop hanging out with them if their personality doesn't change? No, in fact you'd likely be incredibly upset if their personality did change too drastically.
You just do different things with them and often times if you enjoy that friend's personality, you can enjoy doing things that you might not have enjoyed doing with anyone else. However, if you have something you like doing, but you're doing it with someone whose personality you don't enjoy, then eventually you'll get tired of doing things with that person.
