I wrote a post a while ago about my love for retail games but I'm unable to find it so I will make a significantly less artful attempt at explaining it here:
Physical games on my shelf serve a number of purposes. They call me back to games I haven't beaten and remind me of all the good times we have had together. I don't get the same joy out of digital games. When I beat a physical game, I get to go through the extremely rewarding process of moving my game from the "in progress" section of my shelf to the "completed" section. With a digital game, I just delete it from my hard drive.
Its more rewarding and it gives me more motivation to actually complete the game...
