| JustBeingReal said: I think 6 years is realistic, we'll probably hear about the next Nintendo home console about 5 years after the launch of Wii U, so in 2017 and the next console will launch in 2018 IMO. |
6 lifecycle is reserved for systems that actually sell remarkably well.
Talking things like the PS2, PS1, NES, DS, and Wii ... the real big boys.
No company has supported a system that sold anywhere close to as badly as the Wii U.
Not Nintendo (honestly they bailed on the GCN after 2004), Not Sega, Not Sony, and not Microsoft.
Where do you guys get this idea that a 6 year life is "standard". It sure as hell isn't. No company will ride a dud platform for years at a time, it cripples your ability to make a profit.
Nintendo's "job" with the Wii U from here on out is to make the small userbase it has reasonably happy by delivering most of the Nintendo IP and right now they've already checked off most of the boxes there -- 2D Mario, check, 3D Mario, check, Donkey Kong Country, check, Pikmin, check, Mario Kart, check, Super Smash Bros., check, that really just leaves Zelda and Metroid.
