Surely they didn't change the Pokémon you encounter from the originals though, no? Whenever I played gen 3 on the GBA I never had this "over abundance of water types" problem, really. It felt just like any Pokémon game.


If that's one of the things that detract from the quality, then why not? It's not like they haven't changed anything from the original releases.
