Oh I agree, it's not even been out for two years yet, it's full power is yet to be fully tapped.

If we look at their 1080p games so far though, they all had a clear reason for being so; WWHD may have had upgraded lighting, textures, and shadows, but it still had a GCN level of geometry and scope. Smash Bros had less detailed graphics than its 720p stablemates. I don't see any such tradeoffs in what we've seen of Zelda Wii U.

BUT: I doubt The Wind Waker HD came anywhere near pushing the Wii U's limits since it was just a port with slightly upgraded visuals, while Smash Bros. runs at a smooth 60fps even with 8 players on screen. Mario Kart, Donkey Kong, Smash Bros and stuff like that were never known as Nintendo's most visually impressive games, I doubt they're going all out with these or SM3DW. I think they absolutely can bring Zelda Wii U in 1080p 30fps.

I agree that MK8/3D World weren't hitting Wii U's maximum, they're too early in the system's life for that.

But by shooting for 1080p with Zelda U, they'd be halving the pixel fillrate they have for  the rest of the graphics. Wouldn't they be better off using that power for better shaders and such at 720p?
