Not just the engine, but a lot of assets seem to be re-used intact from 3D World, so their creators would need to be credited.

Are we sure about this? If I recall correctly, Koji Kondo was nowhere to be found in the credits for A Link Between Worlds despite having wrote all the songs that came from A Link to the Past. It might be different for composers, though.

No, I'm not sure at all, I am merely speculating.

For the record, I too expect EAD Tokyo's next major title to be a next gen release. Wii U may see another remaster or spinoff, but not the next core 3D Mario. We already got 3D World and Captain Toad. Only Wii so far has had 2 core 3D Marios, N64 and GCN had only one.
