I disagree with the consensus.

Next year I think there will be 3/4 N3DS exclusives. But by the end of 2016, they will have all but stopped support for 3DS, so in 2017 all handheld titles will be N3DS exclusive. (Except for 3rd party titles).

Yeah, they don't want to alienate the existing 3DS customer base, but they also want as many of those customers to upgrade their system. So they need to tread the line between forcing people to upgrade unwillingly (which alienates the customer) and not giving people a reason to upgrade at all (which carries an opportunity cost).

So what they'll do is effectively phase out 3DS titles over the next 2 years.

Ironically, I expect them to announce their new console at E3 2017 so that'll be interesting as well.
