As I already wrote: It only took a holiday season, price cut and a brand new blockbuster game bundled for free to beat PS4 in early September, at full price, and a brand new blockbuster game at an additional cost.

Not something to really celebrate.

Who gives a shit how they do it. They could give them away fro a dollar as long as they have more consoles sold than the competitor.

It's important because #sales at a certain price is indicative of demand. Demand has a huge impact on future sales. Currently, xb1 demand is statistically lower than ps4. The more is cut off (the greater the value offered), the more easily we can predict when something will outsell another thing.

Yeah, that's all scientific and stuff, but even on a base level, it's understandable that if one thing can't outsell another when it is given more and more value advantage, then it's unlikely that it will outsell it when value levels are equal. So, what people are saying is that if it took MS this much value advantage to outsell in ONLY one region, the game is pretty much lost.

a 350$ console with a free blockbuster game cannot outsell a 400$ console with no game.
That isn't good news. Especially, when said console WAS 500$, and it took this to create demand. The short term analysis would say that this sales increase is likely just a spike, and will go back to normal with a slightly higher 5k to 10k base. (But also possibly an even lower baseline, since people who would have bought in staggered waves over the course of 2015 instead buy all at one time now)
