Best karting game that doesn't include Mario. Open world hub was a cool way of getting about different races, and the way new areas and races unlocked in a similar fashion to Mario 64 was unique to my knowledge for a racing game at the time. It also had planes and hovercraft in addition to the regular karts, which added depth to the gameplay that most other kart games lacked. The boss races, such as racing a dinosaur up a mountain and a dragon through caves and under windmills, were awesome, even if they cheated a bit. And while the trackes never quite matched the very best of MK, they were still varied and a load of fun.

Respect.
I think "best karting game that doesn't include Mario" hits the nail on the head. In fact, I'd argue DKR is superior to its N64 contemporary, Mario Kart 64.

Well, I have MK64 higher up on my list, just because it was the first racing game I ever played and I played so much of it. But if I were to compare them now with nostalgia removed from the equation, I may agree
