That's not a quote from any Nintendo exec though that's just from polygon ... and they're right there isn't a Skylanders hub game ... yet.

But Nintendo has never said they're not working on one. 

My hunch is it's probably already well into development and has been probably last year. But it wouldn't be ready for this holiday.

Amiibo were always going to work on a variety of software too. So it's not an either/or situation. Nintendo can make plenty of money both ways. 

It also kinda answers the question of "what's the big 3DS game for 2015?" ... well this could be it (along with a Wii U version of course). New 3DS interfaces with amiibo right out of the box remember.
