The problem with cross game compatibility is say a kid buys a Pitt amiibo, but really Smash is the only game where it does anything significant. He'll get tired of that amiibo pretty quickly probably.

Besides a central "Amiibo Universe" game doesn't somehow stop the figures from being used in other games too. Best of both worlds.

I think it's gonna happen. Not only that I think it will be monstrous seller.

That and I don't really see a game in 2015 that uses the all the amiibo toys they're going to have ... like does Megaman work in Mario Party 10? Probably not, I'm guessing.

It has to happen if they want amiibo to come anywhere close to what Skylanders has become. I'm just saying I'd be surprised if it came out before 2016 since they were adamantly opposed to the idea just a few months ago.

What's the actual quote there if you don't mind me asking?

Besides Nintendo says a lot of things and then does a 180 all the time. For this holiday since they don't really have a "hub" game ala Skylanders, of course they're keen to point out the cross game compatibility. But that IMO certainly won't stop them from making a Skylanders style game. The truth really is they probably could not get such a game done on time for this holiday, especially if its for both Wii U AND 3DS, which I think it will be (they're going to want to sell amiibos to the much larger 3DS base, not just the small Wii U userbase).

If I was working at Nintendo I'd look into a TV animated series for such a game too (a toy line + a TV series goes together like peanut butter and jelly) ... imagine it eventually become a movie like The LEGO Movie. Could be really, really big for Nintendo and bring characters other than just Mario/Pikachu/Link to a lot of people who aren't familiar with those other characters.
