Microsoft targets the FPS and competitive market. Sony has no genre it focuses on but tends excell at third person. 


That's kinda picking hairs, they both want the same exact audience. 

Last year Sony had an Assassin's Creed IV bundle for PS4, this year MS has an Assassin's Creed bundle for the XBox. The brands are basically interchangable. 

They target virtually the same exact audience.
