Different strokes then I guess.

I would welcome optional controls though, although that should have been there from the start. I would hate to wait another 5+ years to be able to enjoy the only console Zelda I have yet to finish. It makes me a sad Zelda fan that I can't force myself through it. Where you find immersion I found it totally unimmersive due to the controls. They are not true 1:1 and make for a frustrating experience. Even my mother, who is a diehard Zelda fan (maybe even more so than me* since she also plays every single handheld game as well) couldn't play it. She stopped early on when you learn to fly. She hated the controls. She actually called me and asked if the controls were able to be changed.

If me and my mother have issues with the controls, then to me it's an obvious issue.

I was able to deal with the gesture based style in Twlight Princess though. They should have stuck with that at least or offered it.

Well I hated the controls in Wii Twilight Princess, so I definitely didn't want that back. It's pretty much the only Zelda so far in which I've disliked controls. I can only play that game if it's GameCube version.

That said, I can definitely see where people are coming from when they say they disliked Skyward Sword because of the controls, it really wasn't for everyone. But then again, it's part of the identity of this game - taking it away is like taking away MM's 3-day system or ALBW's wall mechanic. The motion controls are what made it so great for those who enjoyed it, and so horrible for the ones who didn't.

I actually fell out of my liking for TP early on and shelved it for about a year when I reached the Sky Temple, but I later came back and finished the game. Overall I really enjoyed it, but not as much as the 3/4 top down Zelda titles. Those are my absolute favorites.

I also don't think your comparison to ALBW is fair since it was a gameplay mechanic and not a control mechanic. What they did with SS was WAY more divisive than the wall mechanic could ever be. Once of them is constant no matter what you were doing while the other was not.

SS could have easily added the optional control scheme and solved just about every single issue people had with the game. It was no doubt a missed opportunity just so they could try to sell WM+, which outside of SS or WS+ didn't serve much of a purpose to warrant the choice they ultimately made.

Anyways, we are getting so off-topic, but I am enjoying it none the less.
