I like the figures and will buy a few of them, but I have to admit the actual functionality of them so far (as a FP in Smash and some minor features in MK and HW) doesn't stick out as too killer just yet.

But I think Nintendo will have a "Nintendo Universe" Skylanders style game for next Christmas which will be dedicated just to amiibo.

Because if you did the whole "well you have to buy the amiibo if you want to unlock this character in Smash", odds are the Smash/Nintendo community would throw a fit (and rightly so). So Nintendo wisely avoided that pitfall.

But right now they're kinda limited to what they can do with the amiibos since there isn't a game specifically made just for them.

This post sums up everything about the situation. The HUB game is surely coming next year and they can't wall off anything significant.

But lets face it, people buy costume dlc for individual games on xbox/playstation so how does spending $15 on a single figure that will unlock small things in multiple games any different? plus you get a real figure.
