The rpgs of the SNES/Megadrive era took me by surprise, because over here in Europe they weren't really advertised at all and since the internet didn't exist they were sold based on the box story description only really.

Soleil was one I didn't even know was an RPG at the time of buying it, was just a bargain bin £10 purchase that turned out to be amazing.
