Bayonetta will sell horribly and they will NOT recover money from the investment cycle. 5. People want Nintendo games, not Nintendo hardware. They could sell so much and stay profitable if they published on mobile devices and the PS4/XB1. There's too much risk associated with developing your own hardware. Also the Wii U is not selling at a profit. There's no evidence of that. The statement by Iwata had something to do with clearing out old stock. |
3. Yeah, because putting their next console in the same situation as the Wii U (and to a lesser extent, the Wii) is a great idea. Why release a stopgap console that is only mildly more powerful than the PS4/XBO, just to be trampled over once Sony/MS release whatever they have next? Terrible idea...
4. Lets wait until sales figures will come out. I think it will do modestly, and I think Nintendo will be generally happy with its performance. I think Bayo 2 has potential from a lot of perspectives, and I think they all need to be considered when talking about whether it does what Nintendo hoped it would do. However, we really just need to wait for sales at this point.
5. Nintendo games are largely made possible by Nintendo hardware. A lot of Nintendo's innovations come with their hardware that gives them new ideas to push with the software. Whether or not you like it or not, I don't think we would have seen this upcoming Kirby or Mario Maker or a console without the Gamepad. Stage creator in Smash Bros wouldn't be anywhere near as good, and NFC would need a separate portal. Metroid Prime 3 wouldn't have used IR controls (which are hands down better than dual analog for FPS in many people's opinions). The galaxy would have never had the ball/flying sections which were a ton of fun...etc. The creativity in Nintendo games is often facilitated by the creativity in Nintendo software.
PS: Nintendo confirmed that Wii U was no longer selling at a loss ("Wii U no longer selling at a loss"). I'm not sure how you can misinterpret that.
