Do you refuse to understand it? Wii U sales haven't gone up by the same magnitude that 3DS sales have gone down.

I would not have made the Wii U at all. That's the root cause of Nintendo's home console problems, the existence of this heavily flawed product. Even if Nintendo had prepared properly for this system by increasing their development staff tremendously, the console would still have been a failure. But to answer your question about HD, the successor of the Wii should have been capable of putting out HD resolutions, but not necessarily be as powerful as the Wii U. Why? Because graphics aren't that important, but they are costly to make.

Change the appropriate words to "3DS" and "handhelds" and it's just as true. Eighth generation Nintendo suffers mightily from stupid decisions in the planning phase, for both their handheld and home console.

Guess we're at an impasse; you don't believe handheld gaming is dying, I do. Not really much more to say as all the other points are built upon this foundation of disagreement.
