Wii U has inadvertently eaten into the 3DS, though. The moment Nintendo decided to try and (fail to) significantly boost the Wii U sales, they had to stop the kinda constant stream of 3DS games due to their small developing teams. 

The Wii U is a money pit for Nintendo and the 3DS is/was the one with a moderate future.

They could just, you know, hire more bloody people, but apparently that hasn't occurred them.
