The Xbox One is not selling "well"

I agree. I just don't see these consoles selling the same types of numbers as the last few gens.

None of them have the same mainstream appeal as prior consoles, like the Wii's motion controls and the PS2 being a DVD player.

Agreed, and I would be kind off glad if it wasn't longer than 5-6 years, I like new consoles :).
