Honestly, it's WORSE if you're assumption is correct. Then Nintendo is actively being deceitful in marketing.

"Mewtwo returns to those who buy both versions for FREE! Oh, you bought the 3DS version, but didn't have a Wii U, so you bought a Wii U and Smash for Mewtwo? Thanks for the $$$, but you didn't have to do that, because Mewtwo is now available for $5 on the eShop for both versions!"

This sounds all types of wrong, well watever floats your boat, i'll be happy with my "FREE" Character next year
