Yeah, looking back now I think if they moneyhatted and committed to marketing some 3rd party exclusives in the near term it would have helped.
But more definitive edition WiiU ports of 3rd party games on a timely basis also would have been better.
-Meaning NFS:MW shows up in November 2012 as a launch game and critics praise it for the graphics and unique gamepad features.
-Meaning all the sports games = better than last gen. That was the case for NBA2K13, but not EA games ;)
-Meaning Ubisoft releases Far Cry 3 to the Wii U with unique gamepad features.
-Meaning Square Enix is there day one with a Kingdom Hearts game announced for Wii U also with Tomb Raider on the way
To some effect, 3rd party exclusives are really meaningless. Gamers want to know that they won't be missing out on 70-80% of all releases and that they'll get a timely, good quality, fully supported version of any and all games they buy.
I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016
