In uncharted I played for an hour sometimes while pressing one button through cutscene or dialog or slowly walking through a desert. Etc. Looks nice, but with a b movie story got boring for me. Gears or halo doesn't do this. They still play like games. I actually prefer uncharted 1 to uc2 and 3 and the last of us for this reason. I also prefer the new tomb raider over uc because it borrowed some elements of uc but put an actual game around it. Especially the tombs etc that weren't part of the story. I wonder if reviewers are sick of that type of game already? The order is getting harsh previews for taking player control away atm. Something that became really prominant last gen in naughty dogs games. Anyway, my opinion. |
Sounds more like pacing and story are your issue than the linear concepts. I agree with you on a lot of it though. I also preferred UC1 and 2 to UC3 and TLoU. In fact, I never got more than an hour or two into UC3 or TLoU because I felt more like I was watching than playing them.
I think those games have a place and hope they aren't getting shat on just because they are that format, but rather because they aren't that format well done.
