Ike is actually pretty balanced IMO.

He's really hard to use one on one because he's so easy to avoid.  Projectiles destroy his Side + B so his slow walk/run speed becomes apparent too.  The good news is that despite those disadvantages he has a long reach and hits hard so while he may not hit as much as other characters he has great knockback when he finally does hit.

If it makes you feel any better, you're not right... you're just less wrong.  In a Brawl where no one focuses as much on dodging, Ike owns.  That's why Ike players usually have the highest KO number win or lose. ^_^
