The Pelican Pad has a circular shield type D-Pad instead of the true cross D-Pad that the Hori has. But it's still a big and responsive D-Pad that works good if you're used to playing SFII on the SNES.

I use a third party controller from Mad Catz that is a bit smaller than the GC controller and has a much improved D-pad, plus sweat fighting grips that are super handy. I can't think of the name of it at the moment, but it's my favorite controller of all time. Unfortunately, the L trigger is messed up and is too trigger happy, but I don't need it for TvC or Smash. It'll be like reuniting with an old friend :)
