So now you wanted them to sell it for 200$ less and without kinect? After kinect being a success on the 360 they were never going to just abandon it. Either way even if it was 200$ less without Kinect that would be 7 billion less in revenue. Yes they costs of production will come down but so will the price even further. You think if they could have sold it at a huge loss they wouldn't have? It's obvious the shareholders want results and want them quick. All 3 console makers actually have sticky financial problems. Nintendo profits falling off a cliff and will be in massive trouble if the next handheld/console flop. MS shareholders not happy with no return after 13 years and that dowsn't look like changing anytime soon. Sony, well we all know Sony's problems in the non playstation sectors. So just like MS couldn't possible have sold it for 200$ less neither could SOny or Nintendo if they want to run a professional business model. Just as well you're not in charge anyway! You'd have made mattrick look like a god lol. |
It doesn't annoy me. I'm telling you your wording is misleading even if that wasn't your intent. Nobody ever said CoD was a MS franchise because Playstation still accounted for a significant number of sales.
No, from the start I said X1 should have launched for $299 without the Kinect. Perhaps $399 with Kinect. The Kinect should have been an option from the start. MS can't worry just about pleasing share holders all the time, nor do they try.
You consider revenue lost from hardware sales and ignore revenue gained from software, accessories, and subscriptions. Hence, a larger userbase gives other opportunities to make profit.
MS has plenty of money and can afford to take risks with Xbox. Even if the Xbox brand itself hasn't been profitable, it has likely helped push other MS products and services.
MS could have sold the X1 for $299 w/o Kinect and $399 w/ Kinect. Now they are wasting money on damage control. I wouldn't be surprised if the X1 is becomes $299 for the Halo 5 launch.
