I hope this remains a permanent change in the Smash series.
For a fighting game like Smash, I think it makes more sense for a character to be independent, without any alternate forms (excluding final smashes).
"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."
