Untrue. Wonderful 101 can be found for a pittance, for example, and the Metroid Prime Trilogy was being given away for a while. Retailers will discount heavily to clear stock shortly, I suspect.

What?  I wish I would have seen that.  I kept my eye on the last few copies at a few local stores around me.  I never did see the price move.  Eventually I caved and bought it.  I just had to have it, and I was getting nervous with only about 4 copies in the area.

Multiple retailers were selling it for $20 once. BestBuy was the first, and then Target and Walmart did so as well. Target's lasted quite a while too. I regret not jumping on when I could!

Who was giving away a limited release of a game that was sold out nation wide? Because they were literally giving away a hundred or so dollars until GameStop got restocked on "used" copies (for 90$).

W101 was on sale because it bombed, and no one was buying it. No Nintendo mainline title ever sees much in the way of discounts, not even DKTF has seen much of a price drop and its the lowest selling mainline IP.

For Metroid, you're thinking of how it's doing now: recall that the game bombed at first and was on fire sale shortly after release. Earthbound is a pretty good analogy, actually.

For Wonderful 101, that is correct. And I stand by the comparison.

Thats because it didn't happen. That Trilogy had massive supply issues because NoA only printed a set-number then discontinued it, you were lucky to have a story with four copies.

You have to forgive noname2200. He has been going on a trolling spree lately, so getting facts right hasn't been of real importance, rather it mattered to get them wrong.

He meant to say Metroid: Other M.

Seriously, where were you people!?! I thought this was common knowledge. The Trilogy did poorly at retail, and at first the only "supply issues" the game had was in shipping too many copies.

I read your links and...

...I'm still not sure I believe it.  Looks like it was a one week ad sale at Best Buy that other stores price matched if you showed them the ad.  After that it went back up to $50.  Sucks I missed the sale, but it looks like it was a pretty quick deal.

When I was looking for it, it was completely sold out online at every store I looked at.  Most stores were sold out, but I managed to find a few copies.  I remember when the game was announced, they said it was going to be a limited edition collectors item.  The damn thing was only in print for 4 months.
