I disagree with your last statement, that may or may not be true, but that is not what he said. "So the issue is not who wins, it's can an independent publisher do a good business on that platform. We're thinking everything from high-end MMO all the way to cell phones." What he said was that as long as 3rd parties can make money on a platform, then they will. 3rd parties going to the platform with the highest profit portential is definitely logical, but not what he was trying to say at all. |
I was thinking one step ahead of you. Good business means different things in different contexts. It's good business to keep all the doors open. It's good business to make profit. Most of all, what is good business, is case specific. Is it good business to make 5 million profit with 2 years project, when you can make 5 million profit with 1 year project? No, it's not. Anyway, different games sell diffently on different platforms, mostly due the demographics. Having a good PS3 project propably makes you more profit than a bad Wii project. Not to mention possible multiplatform releases. So, they are going to where they see they can make most profit. 360 have proved itself in online shooters, so the natural choice for them is 360 or 360/PC/PS3. While they go where most of the profit originates, they don't need to ditch anyone.
