Why would Nintendo make another Console after so many failed attempts?

Their profits say otherwise. 

I would expect them to, considering the wildly successful Game Boy Advance followed by the even more successful DS were pretty much carrying the company. A company making profit as a whole does not mean the consoles they were selling were a success.

The consoles made profit for the company. You are reading into it incorrectly. People are not talking about the company making profit as a whole. People are talking about each individual console making money for Nintendo.
