There are plenty of examples. There are rugby players who are faster than American football players, and there are rugby players who are bigger than American football players.

The thing that must be taken into consideration however is that the athletes of the two sports have been conditioned and trained in different ways, to suit different needs. A rugby player needs to be build for endurance and stopping power. An American football player needs to be built for blocking power and evasive sprints.
