Of course it is. That's not how CPU's generally work. Especially not from one cycle to the next cycle.

However, neither you nor I know what the true performance is since real bencharks, like the kinds we have on PCs, are ever run on consoles, we can't know necessarily if the Wii U is 3x or more or less than what was on the Wii.

Given that core count alone is three times, before we even take into the higher clock speed and a 12-fold increase in L2 cache, it's almost certain that it's significantly more than just 3 times stronger when all is said and done. You're right, we don't know the exact performance, but we can estimate. 

And some people just find this stuff interesting, I guess.
