Tales of Symphonia is an interesting case. Nintendo published it in the US, and the later PS2 version never released in any Nintendo published areas. Unclear if it was Namco's choice or contract clause.

However, while the enhanced PS2 version never released in the West. the HD collection did. Same question to wonder if it was just Namco's decision making or if because it was a "remake/remaster" they got around the existing contract.

Might have been a time-limited contract, in which case Nintendo had no say after x amount of time passed, or Namco and Nintendo made an agre,ement. Either way, Tales of Symphonia had nowhere near the investment from Nintendo that Bayo 2 does.  All Nintendo really did was to ensure that Symphonia would be a GC exclusive in the US during the time in which it really mattered.
