It's fun as a toy but indeed horrible as a game. At least they seem to know it themselves and you can turn off hostile mobs, tnt explosions and fire spreading.  The problem is that you can only get certain building materials from enemies. I was expecting a 3D Terraria, but it doesn't come anywhere near close that experience. The addition of being able to build fun mechanisms, albeit in a weird convoluted way, saves it for me. Too bad signal locking repeaters aren't even in the ps4 version, nor hoppers or comparators. Seeking for advice on the wiki doesn't help much when half the tools are missing.

I guess I can switch to creative mode, cuts out resource hunting? It might lose its appeal altogether when it's nothing more than an editor. My 5 year old wants to see the end, and the ender dragon. I think I'll pass... Making a portal to the Nether world and immediately being blasted off into a huge lava lake, twice, in different locations, that was enough fun.

The Ender Dragon (and the wither) are some of the worst designed bosses I have ever seen, in an area with tons of Endermen (which encourages players to wear a pumpkin over their head, which makes the first person view shit). I don't understand why, in a game about Mining and Crafting, they decided to make a boss like that. If I was in charge of boss design, I would make large SotC-like bosses that you had to climb on and destroy blocks of and use your minecraft knowledge (moving water + still lava = obsidian where moving lava + still water = cobblestone for one boss, shooting arrows through lava = fire arrows for another...) to take them down. So many interesting things could be done, but instead they decide to highlight how junk the combat is with a junk boss...

Also, the mobs should work like monsters in Monster Hunter, where you use their gear to make your armor to enhance the crafting system (as is, you reach a point where you have full diamond armor in like, 45 minutes and then there is nothing to do but grind for enchantments).

Maybe the fact that Minecraft makes my imagination run wild with all the possibilities is an indicator of how much potential it has, but still...everything feels like a letdown :(
