I can't believe people are surprised by this. Sakurai's reasoning was the first thing that crossed my mind when Ice Climbers absence was confirmed. They didn't even work flawlessly in Brawl, after all, causing frame drops and laggy animations.
Ice Climbers may have been popular in the Smash scene, but Rosalina more than makes up for them with her widespread fame and far more creative Luma abilities.
