I have to put in a recommendation for Kirby's Adventure -- a late NES release a lot of gamers missed out on because we'd already moved on to the 16-bit systems. It's not a long or difficult game (3-4 hours) but it's consistently fresh and inventive, one of the best NES platformers ever released.
Military Madness from the Turbografx-16 lineup is good fun also, very accessible and entertaining hex-based strategy game.
