Nintendo did make a stupid decision but the sales far exceeded expectations (and probably the budget too, since the game wasn't even HD). Poor sales is an odd statement to make here because we're not comparing it to anything other than bigger numbers. This was a niche product that turned into a cult hit and classic to the point that all of its copies sold out, a whole bigger HD game got funded, and the game's name is widespread... and is also getting a 3DS release.

Once again, we're talking about the customer base it had. A very small audience. I'm not instulting the game's sales or it's quality, I'm saying that it won't be a game changer for nintendo, which it won't.
