I tend to think CNBC and the Wallstreet Journal are more plugged in than gaming sites to be honest anyway. Besides there's no law that says MS couldn't yank Minecraft from PSN (PS3, PS4) if they really felt like it. Part of the perks of buying something for $2 billion is that you can do whatever the f*ck you want with it. |
Which doesn't change the fact that buying the entire company, which is harder than buying the entire IP, is a collosal waste. MS could get the Minecraft IP, which is what one would expect they want from this rumored acquisition, but Notch could easily and legally, just take the Minecraft IP with him and start another new company or LET IT DIE like Fish.
And If I know that, then obviously, MS Legal team, have already written this out and discussed this because I'm not a Lawyer.
Furthermore, In order to have Minecraft on the PS4, there is a licensing agreement, which must be honored by whoever owns the IP.
