They're not hostile to handhelds, they simply see no value in them. If Ms could come up with a reason to make them desirable to that crowd then sure they could definitely be successful, however I doubt there is anything that can make handhelds desirable at this point. Perhaps a combination of phone, HD gaming and free streaming sports, but then it isn't really a dedicated handheld anymore and may as well just be a smartphone.

This is what I mean by hostile, not literally throwing handheld devices off of bridges or something.

Their is no way in hell a handheld devices can compete in primarily in american against smartphones, least of all Xbox could. They would have the same problem that the Vita has, magnified by 100.

As for a mobile, MS already has that.

Its called the Lumia, windows phone etc.
