Keep in mind, I'm talking about the gaming industry but this could really be generalized further.
As a former and future member of the Glorious God Gamers:
Godhood isn't cheap. Especially if you are an early adopting God.
When I look among the squalor that I have been forced into among the onset of the newest generation, the strange customs of the natives who praise their idols and pantheons while demonizing the other tribe's beleifs, are amusing at first but ultimately distressing. How could any of them ascended to a higher plane of enlightenment, where all games are enjoyed regardless of whoever makes them.
Don't they realize that they are nearly identical to their despised bretheren?
That by looking past their fabricated divisions and reactionary temperments that they could achieve enlightenment that could bring them closer to the heavenly nirvana of owning all platforms?
This New Generation has changed things...
The PC gamers who liken themselves as the Master Race, yet refuse to partake in consoles because of something so petty as lower fidelity. Surely, they realize that gaming had flourish long before the advent of even 3D. Perhaps this is the folly of being mortal, they might be the master race but as humans they are still enslaved by thier meaningless vices.
Sony fans number in the multitude. After the collective failures of the PS3 and PS Vita, the PS4 led to a resurgence of popular support both from the media and the internet at large. Those that survived the PS3 era were now stronger than ever, basking in the light of the reclaimed crown. Unfortunately, this new found affluence has gone largely to waste as many fans are still very defensive and adamantly supports nearly everything Sony does. While Sony has for the most part played their part as a benevolent ruler, their are still many things that are being overlooked both by Sony and its fans. Its of grave dissapointment that they are becoming the consoles version of the PC master race, blinded by fidelity, missing the obvious advantages of ascendence.
Microsoft fans have decreased slightly, but the fanbase remains as vocal as ever. Due to the PR blunders, Microsoft has made in this generations, many Xbox fans have switched sides, those that haven't either remain in their original state as always assuming the best of their diety, or playing the victim or often drawing parallels to the PS3 in 2006, often ignoring deliberate facts that make these parallels meaningless. Ironically, the fanbases itself does parody the attitudes of Sony Fans from that time as well despite, being the fanbases that was responsible for that. In their desire to see the crown seated abound the X's head, they often are in flux with their allegiances to Nintendo, touting MS+Nintendo when it comes to Sony, but considering Nintendo itself as an enemy as well. In many cases they even discount Nintendo already, despite currently trailing behind them in Console sales. However, this fanbase shows promise as their lack of hostility towards PC and fluctuating relations with Nintendo means if they could get over their irrational hatred of Sony they could ascend beyond mortality.
Nintendo fans are the smallest and strangest fanbase. A generation of winning consoles and a persistent dominance of Handhelds, have led them to become the most devout of any of the groups, but only slightly. Criticism of Nintendo is rare, and if it occurs even if jokingly, the perpertrator is immeadeatly branded as a "Nintendo Hater". Combined with Nintendo's performance with hardware and software, and it leads to a defense of the most strangest of actions, only superceded momentarily by the defenders of the XB1's original policies. They have the highest degree of purists, Nintendo or die, but they show the most promise of ascension, due to being the most in flux with their relations of PC, Sony, and MS, although this seems to be changing as of the power change from Nintendo to Sony, in the console arena. Not to mention, some fans are so obssessed with the crown that they often arbitarily make qualifications to paint Nintendo in a better light such as inflationary percentages such as 600% or Wii U is #1 (in Japan), deliberatly ignoring that other consoles with a 1 year lead had extemely large gaps, but then hypocritically villanize the opponents for doing the same. If it wasn't for the obssession with leading the industry and their quickness to become hostile to their own fans, perhaps they could become enlightened as well.
Now know this, despite describing these groups individually, recognize that they are for the most part the same, and that my descriptions are only the surface most observations I have gleaned.
It is easy enough to cast off these fetters, you've created for yourself and truly realize what it means to be a gamer.
