Bold: Was it though? NGC had better hardware overall than PS2, which always led me to think it was more expensive to make. 2nd, they dropped the price to 99 at some point, and most of its life I remember being cheaper than PS2 as well. So there you have it: more expensive hardware+cheaper console=less revenues me thinks. Maybe it managed to be profitable considering the standards Nintendo saw for it, but not profitable compared with PS2 (I don't trust that lazy chart around the web btw, it says little and the little it says hasn't been confirmed).

Underlined: definitely higher than PS2 exclusives, but still lower when compared with overall SW retention.

The NGC sold at a profit and had high software rates. The WiiU and 3DS are the only hardware Nintendo has, seemingly, ever sold at a loss and doing it both at the same time really gutted them.

As to the relation between it and the PS2, like I said, its next to impossible to disentangle the GBA and NGC profits, so we have no idea how they line up exactly in the home console department.
