I was looking through the profile settings page and saw no option to change your (profile) gender.

As an example, let's say I was a biological man who signed up as a confused kid 5 years ago but slowly grew into the idea that I was a woman in a man's body. Naturally I would like to change my VGC gender as well, but as far as I'm aware, VGC does not allow that.

We're already this far into the 21st century. Isn't it time to embrace reality already, VGC?

There is no such thing, biologically speaking, as a "transsexual" or "transgender". You're born either a man or women and no amount of surgery will ever change that. A man can not have working ovaries and a women can not have a pair of working testicals/sperm.

Well, of course transexual and transgender doesn't exist biologically speaking, because those are psychosocial terms. That would be like saying: "there is no such thing as the meaning of a word biologically speaking" which would be true, but that doesn't mean that the meaning of a word, transexuals or transgenders are worthless or should be ignored. However, your argument is flawed when you say that "you're born either a man or women" because you can also be born intersexual (on many degrees actually) with both or ambiguous genitalia, sex can also be ambiguous at the genetic level. While it's true that surgery won't change your genetic sex, gender is independent of genetic or genital sex, so a person CAN be a man or a woman regardless of their genital and/or genital sex. Ovaries and testicles don't define gender, in fact people who have them surgically removed because of medical conditions actually keep their gender and sexual identity, just in case you haven't noticed.
