Not really, we cant talk about the market health with such irrelevant comparison, there is no comparison possible here, since the PS4 has absolutely no exclusive for Jpan, and even considering  multiplatform games, the games are not so big.

 

N64 had THE Mario 64, the comparison is totally pointless.

The japanese console market is collapsing or at least shrinking considerably, no point in denying that. Only a huge miracle would make any console consistently sell over 40k in Japan for several weeks in the summer. Had Mario 64 a lot to do with those N64 sales? Sure, but that still doesn't disprove the notion that the japanese market isn't what it used to be.

It's not totally what it used to be during N64 era of course,  but i dont think it shrinked from PS3 to PS4. There is no evidence about that for now. I'd see easily the PS4 reaching 8-9M, especially if the dragon quest come back is real
