Honestly if Nintendo had started at $199.99/$249.99 without the Gamepad bundled they probably be much further away from X1 total sales. We all can do this :)

Except Nintendo has shown no inclination of dropping the GamePad whereas MS did eventually acknowledge Kinect being mandatory was a mistake. 

Also $499.99 is a much more prohibitive price point than $299/$349 is. No console has ever sold well in gaming history at that price point.
